Chinatown, Chicago – August 2015

Digging back into the archives (as the first bites of Winter appear), here are some 35mm photos from August 2015. These were the last few film shots on an expired roll—taken during a photo excursion with Amar while exploring Ping Tom Park in the peak of Summer.

I haven't shot film since, and after going through my stockpile, I've take a step away from that world. Given the way pictures are consumed nowadays, I'm having a hard time confronting digital channels to stay abreast of output—making me really miss the golden days of Flickr.

Tacoteqa Launch at the Freehand Chicago

Chicago's love affair with tacos is a deep one. It's hard to resist those things after a night out. In fact, it was Anthony Bourdain who said something to the effect that "tacos are the perfect vehicle for food delivery."

Given the aforementioned, you can understand my excitement about Tacoteqa, Broken Shaker's new taco and disco initiative in the Freehand Hotel. Starting every Thursday through Saturday from 10pm to close, the Broken Shaker will be taking over the in-house CafĂ© Integral to serve up tacos, quesadillas and cocktails. Disco will also be served up as well.

Here are some photographs I took for their August 12 opening week!

Quiet Life - Den Session at Freehand Hotel

The Quiet Life, a band from Portland, OR stopped by the Freehand Chicago for a little live Den Session. I took some photos as the gents did their thing. The space and the band's happy folk stylings transported me—judging from the folks nodding their heads away, the feeling was mutual. I'm particularly fond of "Summer of '16."

Their new album, Foggy, is available for purchase on iTunes, vinylSpotify, and Amazon
